My name is Arunima Kapoor and I am an artist by profession, born and brought up in New Delhi the capital of India.
Painting is my passion and I love painting ever since I can remember. I took painting as one of my main subjects in high school and won Gold medal in school and a certificate of merit from CBSE to be among the top .01% students in India for the same. Ever since, I never looked back. I completed my B.F.A from College of Arts, New Delhi and my M.A in Drawing & Painting from Gwalior. I have also done an ‘Art Appreciation Course’ from National Museum Institute, New Delhi and completed an Animation course from MAAC, New Delhi.
Earlier I worked as an art teacher in various schools and also worked with a leading advertising consultancy firm, but left everything to concentrate on my paintings.
ABOUT MY WORK:
For me art is a tool to express inner feelings, emotions and experiences both regarding my situations and surroundings. It is a constant spiritual quest from worldly to within.
My ideas and inspiration change according to the environment but my home has always been a muse for me. With a backyard full of vast landscape encompassing variety of vegetation and bird life, and a house full with assortment of flowers and plants, my affinity towards nature is apparent in most of my creations.
My works are both symbolic and expressionistic in nature, though I do not constrain myself to a single medium, style or concept. Often I paint semi-realistic forms, symbols and motifs as well as colours for their emotive values. These elements can be stylized or abstract in nature and directly as well as metaphorically reflect the welled up emotions and sentiments and help me to portray my myriad thoughts onto the surface of canvas, board etc. I usually apply heavy impasto strokes with a palette knife in an aggressive but controlled manner. My colour palette is usually bright, full of rich and vibrant hues.
Reviews about my works are published in local newspapers such as Hindustan Times, Dainik Jagran, Indian Punch, and Prabhat Khabar.
As a professional artist I have been actively participating in various art exhibitions in India and abroad and have attended many art camps as well.
