This work speaks about the race and gender inequalities that exist in Latin America. The woman is holding the “racial” pyramid that academics refer to in order to point out how color is often associated with socio-economic status. However, one must notice the male symbol on each level of the pyramid, while the woman carries this burden/pyramid like a basket of fruit on her head. She is often not represented in positions of power and politics. However, she is as big South America and often times the bearer of culture. The “marianismo” suggests that she is like the Virgin Mary, perhaps all suffering, but ultimately maintaining the importance of morality and fidelity in society.
