When I was a young boy, Mama Commerce would read me bedtime stories from large, dusty leather bound books she pulled off of high shelves in her extensive library. These books were filled with illustrations of children lost or wandering from home. And so these memories inspired me to paint the Girl Out Walking series. Unlike those stories this girl fails to run into anything foreboding. She isn't lured into the woods by a witch who wants to eat her. And she doesn't have any mishaps with plotting wolves. In fact, she discovers nothing on her journey, but herself. there are many more to come.
