This mask is representative of a Makara mask. A Makara (chu srin in Tibetan) is a dragon-like water serpent. These masks are typically made in Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayan region. They are used during monastery festivals for Cham ceremonial dance dramas. I sculpted this mask, made refinements to it and hand-painted it. Mask size is 14 in. wide and 16 in. long. To see details about my method for making masks please see my Artists Biography. This mask is available for purchase. Contact me for more details.
