.PLAYGROUND (55” x 73”- mixed media) What does a child do in a city littered with the dead-end remnants of war? What does he look at in his Playground? What does his child-eyes see? Amongst the glass, nail bombs, broken cement, bullet casings, and barbed wire, the child might be lucky and find a treasure from someone’s broken dreams. Usually not. The grown man mourns that loss of innocence embedded in the hatred and sickness of the streets of North Belfast when he remembers the tattered remains of a young child’s dress. |
