EXPLOSION – THREE PIECES (24” x 36” each, acrylic, horizontal center piece) BEGINNING, DURING AND END. Political ideology comes into the consciousness of the populace—an Explosion. There was no clear definition, no “rules of war” for sectarianism. The bleeding Irish colors show how the violence became a way of life: looking over our shoulders, afraid to answer the door at night, fearing the walk to and from school – there was no clear definition of “sides.” The desire to remove a British presence from Northern Ireland, bound up as the Irish Nationalist Movement, was and still is deeply rooted. The blood spilled from this violence totaled over 3,200 people. |
