Eryngium Leavenworthii///Leavenworth’s eryngo is a prickly plant species that has been confused with thistles. In fact the species is from the Carrot family, Apiaceae. An annual species that grows 20-40 inches in height, spreading leafy stems. Almost the entire plant has some or many shades of purple. Flowers are small, tiny, purple, mingled with small, spiny bracts in elongated, terminal, head-like clusters, sutended by spiny bracts. Leaves are deeply lobed, segmented edges with stiff spines on the tips. A tuft of small, rigid, spiny leaves grows out of the top of the flower head.
