Oberbaum Bridge, Watercolor, Watercolor Cardboard, 11,6x15,9 inch, 1996. The Oberbaum Bridge was constructed 1893 in his medieval form. At this place all ships coming to Berlin were controlled and had to pay toll. To prevent the passing by nigth they put a big trunk before the drawbridge after it got dark. Therefor the name Oberbaum Bridge (Baum = tree). Nowadays the underground passes the bridge. In the time of the DDR (German Democratic Republic) only pensioners could use this bridge when they wanted to visit West Berlin.
