This oil painting shows a Swiss Alpine landscape with a crystal-clear mountain lake. In the foreground you can see two cows on the shore of the lake. Their presence lends the picture an idyllic, rural atmosphere. The turquoise-blue lake dominates the centre of the painting. Its mirror-smooth surface reflects the surrounding mountains and the sky, creating a perfect symmetry between water and land. An imposing mountain range rises in the background. The closer mountains are cloaked in lush green, while the more distant peaks are covered in snow and shimmer in various shades of blue. The sky is painted in a clear, bright blue, with a few white clouds emphasising the vastness of the horizon. Small buildings can be recognised on the left-hand edge of the picture, alpine huts that blend harmoniously into the landscape. Overall, this painting gives the viewer a sense of peace and reverence for the majestic beauty of the Alpine landscape.
