A Little About Me
A little about myself - I was born and raised in New Orleans, but currently reside in South Louisiana. I get alot of my inspiration from growing up in that unique and facinating city. My mother is an artist and I grew up surrounded by art. Both of these stimuli, I believe, is what lead me to create. I'm drawn to the unique and unusual.
I really dislike doing artist's statements. That being said, I paint because I'm drawn to it. I have this burning desire to create. My mind is restless and I'm always thinking of new things to paint and different techniques I want to try. No matter how discouraged I may feel at times, I continue to paint.
I love color and shapes, also movement, so I mostly do abstracts. Currently, I'm really getting into outsider or brut art using mixed media and interesting non-art objects also fabric. I'm an accomplished seamstress and my first 'art' was in the form of quilts. Colorful, bright, funky not your usual country quilts, and that is still a big influence.
But like I said, I have a restless mind and will often move from style to style. I know this is frowned upon, but I have a very short attention span. My style can be summed up best by artist and author Herbert Sieber - 'Why should I care about style? When I start painting, I never know what will come out.' That pretty much sums up my creative process. I start out consciously doing a piece, then my subconscious takes over and usually moves me into a different direction.
I am self-taught and continually learning.
