Hey, thanks for checkin' out my stuff!
I've been painting for almost 16 years, and drawing, literally, since I could hold a pencil. My inclination for art came from my dad, who used to draw really bad ass charcoal and pastel pictures when I was a little kid. My mother was ( and still is ) instrumental in giving me the moral support to be creative ( she is a musician, adept at both piano and violin ) and she was always supportive of my desire to be an artist, and, I think, it is her belief in me that made me the Artist, and Man, that I am today.
I've had art displayed in over 40 venues, from "legitimate" art galleries, to coffee shops and bank lobbies. I've had six Solo Shows....some weren't too lucrative, the rest...well...
I 've done quite a bit of freelance illustration work like tattoo design, album art for local bands, signs and business card layouts.
When someone asks me to categorize my style, I have always had trouble doing so...I think Neo-Surrealism fits some of my work, but so does Art Brut, Lowbrow, Outsider Art, etc...etc...I just like to call it mine. I don't copy anybody , and if you are familiar with my style you recognize it when you see it, or so I've been told.
In the past, my biggest artistic influences, other than my parents and friends, were Salvador Dali and Dr. Seuss....now, it's probably Robert Crumb and Picasso...I don't know, I don't really have "tangible" art influences...I pick up ideas here and there, like hearing a song lyric, seeing a leaf quiver in the wind on an oak branch, or staring into my daughter Mickaela Rae's azure eyes...
Actually, speaking of my daughter, I can definately , unequivocably say that she is my biggest influence now. Her enthusiasm for my art and the pure love we have gives me all I need to do anything and everything...to me, nothing else matters...
Again, thank you for taking the time to check out my artwork and reading this boring rant. Take care. xBRADx
