Bio
I was born in Lake City, Florida in 1983. I graduated from a private school when I was 16 because I wanted to start working. I was born into a self-employeed home - my father has been a State Certified General Contractor for the past 35 years. I worked in the field, and eventually came to work in the office as a Contract Administrator. Three years ago I became a State Certified Buildin gContractor.
I married a firefighter/EMT from a local small town in March of 2008. My husband also owns a production company and we also have an internet business.
I'm active in my church - The First Apostolic Church where my grandfather is the Pastor. I've been involved in the music program since I was 6. I play the organ as part of our 50 piece church orchestra.
I started painting in school and quickly grew to love it. I sold my first piece at 15 and never looked back. I've been creating custom oil paintings for 10 years for clients nationwide.
I was raised to work hard, work smart and pursue my dreams.
My Artist Statement
Painting is my release, my zone, my creative space away from everything else. A place where vibrant colors and vivid texture come together creating a unique work of art.
Painting, to me, has always been about personal feeling and expression. Since art is subjective and appreciated differently by each viewer, connecting with someone through my work in ways I may not have originally seen is very fulfilling.
The colors I choose and my use of texture is meant to capture the attention of my viewers. The application process is completely original, probably unorthodox to some, but it’s what makes my work one of a kind – uniquely a Leslie. I use oils as my only medium because of their brilliant color and texturing capability.
The overall theme of my work is “friendly and vibrant”. I try and create an entirely “happy” environment in which for me to paint. They say laughter is the best medicine, and I find it helps my creativity flow. I find that when I’m happy it’s reflected in my work and I want people to feel that when they look at a piece of my art. To witness their reaction when they see the texture and bold colors is very exciting. I want them to make an emotional, visual and textile connection with my work.
Currently the majority of my paintings are created specifically for the client. I chose this avenue in painting because it made me more flexible as an artist. I have six different genres for clients to choose from, and am always open to a new challenge. My motto is “Yes, I can do that.”
I am inspired by art and aim to inspire others through my own work.
