Artist’s Statement by Nina Hardison (NinaBelle)
There is nothing magic, complicated or complex about my paintings. As an artist I don’t strive to find deep soulful meanings in the oil on the canvas I create. I suppose it would be more contemporary and “with the art scene” if my paintings could predict the end of the world, depict the bad news of our economy or remind the community of it’s failings but I really cannot see that as “my art scene.” The importance of recording history is not questioned as the goal of every artist but all things, moments in time, are history after tomorrow.
My goals are to bring information to the canvas with a positive objectivity. That information be it beautiful or interesting comes to the viewer in wonderful colors. I think paintings should make you think, not just admire or agree with the subject matter especially when putting it into your personal space . Paintings are lifetime investments and therefore should be an emotional treasure for you to enjoy and study everyday.
I am always excited to bring to the canvas a new place traveled because you may never go there and as an artist I can bring a small part of my explorations exclusively to you. Even though I may paint it a little more pleasing than in reality, it will be enjoyed; and may even inspire someone to make that journey as they will experience an entirely different perspective, perhaps understanding the artist view.
My second life as an Artist has changed my perspective in what I see around me; the people that are so interesting; the differences in a fellow artist’s view on subject matter; and just life in general.
I am learning to SEE….. And very happy to share it with you.
