Joan Butler-Gore

I started painting using charcoal and soft pastels, studying privately and mainly producing portraits.  I've worked in oil pastels, watercolor, graphite pencil and oils, often mixing the media to get the desired effect. 

Recent work is mostly in oil, painting both land and seascapes and portraits, but charcoal is still my favorite medium, one that I use for plein air studies, for drawings that may possibly be rendered later in oil.
