Stanton is a self-taught artist who admires the works of the European and American Impressionists from the 19th. Century, and has studied their works as part of the process of learning to be a painter.

     He paints in both oil and watercolor, focusing on landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, and figurative work as subject matter.  Living on Hilton Head Island, SC, a good deal of his paintings are of the lowcountry with its beaches and marsh.
