Artist Statement:
I am an artist by nature. I believe that my faith increases my talent. I believe that the quality of art should not be based on its medium nor canvass, but rather by the skill of the artist. I give a little of myself in creating which adds soul to my subjects. I am committed to expounding a newfound respect for the use of charcoal.
Biography:
Jacksonville native Artist Adrian Pickett Jr., is talented in the use of many mediums, yet prefers the challenge of charcoal. At just 10 years old, Adrian’s gift was apparent after taking a one day summer course at a local art school. His rendering that day was of a painted ocean landscape with blowing willows... that many compare to the professionally trained. His love of art continued throughout the years but he only relied on his own intuition and self education to develop his unusual style of technical perfection. He may be best identified by his “soulful” portraitures and his approach to revealing the essence of his subjects. Adrian’s talent allows him to transpose explicit details and unparalleled realism in his artwork. By all accounts he has mastered the use of charcoal.
Experience:
Over the past four years Adrian has become an emerging artist and has received much acclaim by exhibiting and winning various juried art events. He has contributed artwork to many local charities and most recently began working with Family Support Services (FSS) to provide portraits for newly adopted children. Other charity affiliations include the American Lung Association, Catholic Charities, Shands Hospital Neo Natal Unit, First Coast No More Homeless Pets, and the Foster Closet. Adrian is a founding artist of The Off The Grid initiative sponsored by Jacksonville’s Downtown Vision Inc., (DVI) and The Cultural Council and has recently opened The Adrian Pickett Gallery @ The Jacksonville Landing Suite 112, 2 Independent Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32202.
**Adrian’s artwork has been nationally recognized and his “Drip” parrot drawing is currently being featured in the 2009-2010 Faber Castell Artist Catalog.
