Who Am I:
I'm a born artist, extremely down to earth and easy going. I'm eager to learn something new everyday, visit new places, and meet new and interesting people. I have a wonderful family and some great friends who have shown me to take advantage of each day and tackle new experiences with a positive and hopeful attitude.
I have been extremely lucky to meet my closest and best friend Stefan Auer who has taken me into his life and shared lots of wonderful experiences with me. Currently I live in Switzerland and return for the Fall and Winter to our 40' steel boat called "Wabi," homeport, White Stone, Virginia. We've done some amazing sailing trips throughout the Chesapeake Bay, the east coast, and into the Bahamas...there's absolutely so much to see and do in this world, and everyone should experience a little traveling!
The Artist in Me & the Art I Create:
As an artist I work with many different mediums. I am a self taught and accomplished mosaic and stained glass artist, ship in bottle crafter, and a paper cut (silhouettes) artist. I enjoy creating many different themes and styles in my pieces and recently learned to enamel glass.
In the Summer of 2009 I began making ships in bottles and quickly, I realized I had skill at working with tiny detail. With each new model, I have develop new techniques of working, and a whole array of different details to add to my miniature fleet. My artwork has expanded from single ships in bottles to scenes, with my goal being to emit a scense of reality, as if you are looking into a bottle that has captured a miniature moment frozen in time. I ultimately try to develop a harmony between the model or scene itself and the bottle that houses it.
I am also working on my new art, Scherenschnitt, Swiss paper cutting or silhouettes, focusing on developing small series, exploring different themes and styles.
All of my artwork is completely handcrafted. In a world of low cost, mass production it is terribly hard to compete. Please don't forget to support handcrafters! Some ships in bottles are available for sale and special requests are accepted.
Don't hesitate to contact me via my email or my website.
