I experience synesthesia, a condition in which senses are neurologically linked. Numbers and letters have colors, music is visual and I feel tastes. Scientists believe that we are all born with more neural connections between senses but for most, they are deemed unnecessary and pruned as the brain develops. In synesthetes, some of these connections remain, resulting in unique multi-sensory experiences.
I paint my synesthetic perceptions because I believe that these images mean something, and that these lost connections are worth maintaining.
