ARTIST OF THE MONTH PROGRAM
After working for many years as a tool and die maker and tooling designer, Martin Bucknarish left the industry to open a pet grooming salon with his wife.
Unfortunately, Bucknarish suffered a back injury while in the process of opening his new business, preventing him from pursuing his new venture. To occupy his time, Bucknarish took up art and quickly became a successful self-taught artist.
“I started drawing using colored pencils and ink,” said Bucknarish, named Artist of the Month for September by the Sterling Heights Cultural Commission. “Images came from my imagination.”
Rocky organic mountain scenes and planetary landscapes are among the images portrayed in Bucknarish’s work. Bucknarish is a member of Warren Tri-County Fine Art, Inc. and the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA). He is a former Artist of the Month for the city of Warren and his work has appeared in the Ruby Red Exhibit in Mount Clemens and Art on the Lake Fine Art Show in Troy.
Examples of Bucknarish’s work will be on display in the lower level of City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, throughout the month of September.
